Will you go for animal prints, velvet, checkered or floral?

Fashion Trends Autumn/Winter 2019

WARM COLOURS
This autumn, the season is truly adorned in the right colours, which can be seen even in the shop windows: gold-brown, burnt orange, with the absolute queen of warm shades being orange. It expresses the power of red, though this is softened by the addition of yellow. Orange (gold) is the colour of enlightenment in Buddhism, which is why the robes of Buddhist monks are orange. In Europe, we appreciate it less and generally do not use it for special ceremonial occasions, as it can quickly appear as brown, which is unsuitable for very formal or ceremonial events. Orange looks best in slightly shimmering materials.
You will notice many brown tones: hazelnut brown, camel, chocolate. Brown suits those with brown eyes, it is very friendly, approachable, but also plain and can sometimes appear cheap. I would advise caution when selecting brown garments, as they can sometimes look more affordable than clothes in other colours. Do remember that brown is not suitable for formal occasions.

ANIMAL PRINTS
Animal prints remain popular this autumn, and every brand will feature them.
It may seem unusual – especially as most luxury brands are moving away from fur and leather – but animal prints play a significant role in fashion this season. Skirts, trousers, coats, and handbags in bold, noticeable animal prints are practically “roaring” from the shop windows.
You will find everything from cobra to zebra, and even cheetah. Animal prints are suitable for less formal business environments, provided they are not overdone. Use them as accessories – scarves, belts, handbags, perhaps a blouse or a flowing skirt. They can appear aggressive if you are dressed head-to-toe in them, seductive if the garment’s cut is appropriate, or even classic if used simply as an accessory.

LEATHER TROUSERS
I never thought we would again be inundated with skinny faux leather trousers. They are likely an essential part of a simple outfit: skinny trousers + tunic + ankle boots. New this season are wide leather trousers in a three-quarter length with a high waist. Pair them with a top that ends just at the waist, so they may not be the best choice for those with a bit of a tummy.

CLASSICS
Classics are making a strong comeback: discreet colours – sandy tones, navy blue, beige, silk blouses, silk scarves with 70s patterns, tartan skirts, pullovers, and classic, minimalist handbag designs. This style is defined by the “old-new” lady, an informed consumer who does not want to stand out and shops with knowledge and consideration. The users of this style are not just older women, but surprisingly also young, conscious consumers from Generation Z.

VELVET
Have you ever caressed silk velvet? Divine. This season, smooth velvet will be widely available in stores, though I fear it won’t be made of silk. You will certainly be on trend if you buy a velvet suit with a large, loose-fitting jacket.

BELTS
Finally, belts are making a return. You will be most fashionable if you cinch a slightly oversized jacket or coat (but in your size) with a wide belt and a decorative buckle.

FLORAL PATTERNS, CHECKERED, CHESSBOARD
This season, you will find checks, ethnic patterns, and increasingly more often, a chessboard pattern – large alternating squares in two colours. A new pattern this season is the rose, which does not appear subtly but boldly large – on a coat, handbag, or blouse. It is no longer the domain of the romantic woman, but it becomes interesting even to a woman with a creative or even dramatic style. Voluminous blouses with large bows and flowing trousers are particularly appealing.

SHOES
Perhaps you’ve already managed to buy some ankle boots? This season, you will find them in all shapes, with many cowboy styles, featuring the so-called Cuban heel, which is chunky, mid-height, and tapered at the back. Boots – both low and high – have pointed toes and heels, while ankle boots remain an important part of the trendy look.

PONCHOS AND COATS
If you are purchasing a garment intended to keep you warm, check the sewn-in labels: if the composition includes half wool, it will be a genuinely warm piece; if cashmere is included, the garment will be warm and feather-light. However, it will not be cheap.
A poncho or large cloak is excellent for anyone who drives a car, as you do not sit on it.
