s.Oliver and cotton made in Africa
SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, FREE FROM GENETIC TECHNOLOGY
The Cotton Made in Africa label is an internationally recognised standard for sustainably grown cotton from Africa. The initiative, launched by the Aid by Trade Foundation, provides trade support to more than one million smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa, significantly contributing to improving their living conditions while protecting the environment. Since 2009, s.Oliver has been a business partner of the Cotton Made in Africa initiative and incorporates certified Cotton Made in Africa cotton in its textile production.
For every product made according to the Cotton Made in Africa standard, s.Oliver pays a licensing fee. The revenue is used for independent monitoring and training in modern and sustainable cotton farming practices. Farmers and their families directly benefit from this, as they learn new, more effective cotton farming methods while also protecting the environment. Cotton with the Cotton Made in Africa label is not produced using genetic engineering or artificial irrigation. When producing a short-sleeve T-shirt, approximately 500 litres of water are saved compared to the global average. Moreover, up to 40% fewer greenhouse gases are emitted during the production of one kilogram of this cotton.
Furthermore, Cotton Made in Africa supports projects in cotton-growing regions that benefit rural communities—such as in education, building wells, or healthcare. By wearing such clothing, you become part of a large movement promoting sustainable cotton farming! Purchasing a product with the Cotton Made in Africa label makes a significant contribution to the future of Africa, the protection of human rights, and our nature.
