Celebrating Slovenian Creativity and the Art of Leather Design
There are few things as rewarding as witnessing the success of a long-time colleague—especially when their talent, perseverance, and vision continue to earn international recognition.
I’ve known Alenka Globočnik, the creative force behind Akultura, since our university days. We were part of the first generation of students in the Textile and Clothing Design programme, and even then, it was clear that Alenka was destined to stand out. Today, she is among the few designers in Slovenia who have mastered the art of leather—a challenging and unforgiving material—and continues to raise the bar each season.
From Ljubljana to Italian National Television
Alenka’s dedication shines through her annual collections, which consistently rank among the highlights of Ljubljana Fashion Week. This year, her work captured the attention of none other than Stefano Dominella, a representative of the prestigious Italian fashion house Gattinoni, following the MBFWLJ fashion show.
Impressed by the originality and craftsmanship of her work, Dominella invited Alenka to appear on RAI 2, Italy’s national television channel, in the fashion segment Moda di Moda, part of the popular show I fatti vostri. It was the Akultura presentation that left the strongest impression—an extraordinary recognition of Slovenian creativity.

A few days after the fashion show, I invited a group of my clients to Akultura, where we had the pleasure of viewing and trying on Alenka’s latest collection—fresh from the runway. Together, we analysed the pieces, selected garments that flattered each individual’s body shape, and chose colours that harmonised with their natural colouring.
It was an evening filled with style, laughter, and inspiration, all within the warm, creative space of Alenka’s boutique on Tavčarjeva 5.
