Autumn–Winter 2024 Fashion Trends

At this year’s Manchester conference, fashion analyst Tony Glenville presented the key trends for Autumn–Winter 2024. This season brings a fresh approach that blends comfort, functionality, and aesthetics—three pillars that have become essential in contemporary fashion. Inspiration draws from global cultural shifts, environmental initiatives, and advanced technology, resulting in a refined fusion of classic tailoring and innovative design. Designers have highlighted sustainability, layering, and practicality while preserving elements of boldness and luxury.

Collections emphasise rich textures, neutral earthy tones, and subtle bursts of vibrant colour, offering a diverse palette for every style. The season encourages individual expression through refined cuts, thoughtful details, and unexpected materials.

Key Trends

Leopard Print – Back again and still going strong.

Checks & Plaids – Scale matters; choose the size of the check pattern according to your height and build.

Fringe – A fleeting trend, yet one that predictably reappears every seven years.

Leather – From vintage handbags and straight skirts to long coats, leather remains timeless. Choose from classic leather or eco-conscious alternatives like pineapple or cactus leather.

Trench Coat – Available in a variety of cuts: romantic with ruffles, oversized for the creative, floor-length for the dramatic, and of course, the iconic beige for classic dressers.

Denim – Expect to see an abundance of denim dresses in stores, perfect for pairing with cowboy boots for an autumn look. Long skirts, jumpsuits, and blouses continue as staples from summer through winter. Many brands are offering coordinated denim sets—an exciting yet challenging style choice.

Belts – A wide variety of shapes and sizes, worn high at the waist or lower on the hips, echoing the early 2000s. Western-inspired cowboy belts make a nostalgic return.

Pointed Kitten Heels – A more wearable alternative to stilettos, yet equally effective at elongating the legs.

Layering & Volume – Think warm scarves, ponchos, and creative layering of different fabrics and textures.

Burgundy Handbag – A perfect seasonal investment. Burgundy also appears in clothing, shoes, and belts.

Statement Accessories – Chunky bracelets, bold necklaces, colourful earrings, oversized pearls, bows, and vintage pieces make striking companions to heavier winter fabrics.
