Jeans

Choosing the right pair of jeans shouldn’t be difficult—after all, the market offers an endless variety. And yet, finding the perfect pair is not as simple as it sounds. Prices range from €20 to €250, but much more important than cost is finding the right fit.

Once you discover a brand that makes jeans perfectly suited to your body shape, you’ve struck gold. Good brands do not change their basic cuts; they simply adapt them to current trends, meaning you’ll always be able to find a fit that works for you within their collections.

Can You Wear Jeans in the Business World?
In most professional environments, smart casual is an accepted—and even encouraged—level of dress. This means you don’t necessarily need a blazer; you can create a relaxed yet business-appropriate look with just two garments.

Jeans can fall into this category, but they should be dark-washed, evenly dyed, unwrinkled, and undamaged.

Tips for Choosing the Right Jeans

  • Jeans made from softer fabrics are usually cheaper. While they may initially fit the body beautifully, over time they lose shape and deform irreversibly.
  • Buy jeans that fitjust right. They can even feel slightly snug when first tried on—looser jeans will feel too big after the first hour of wear, as they can stretch by up to 10%.
  • If you find a pair that fits you perfectly, stick with that brand—it’s a sign their cuts work for your body type.
  • For a slimming effect, choose darker denim with proper fading: the lighter area should be along the centre of the leg. Jeans with a side seam slightly shifted toward the front can also visually narrow the legs.
  • Buying jeans is often more challenging than buying any other clothing item, mainly due to the stiffness of the fabric. It’s essential to find a cut that matches your body shape.

Be Eco-Conscious
How many pairs of jeans do you have in your wardrobe—and do you actually wear them? Producing a single pair of jeans requires over 7,000 litres of water. Washing them once a week for two years uses an additional 1,600 litres. Denim production also consumes 1.7 million tons of chemicals annually.

How Sustainable Are You?
If you buy jeans for €100 and wear them for one year, four times a week—16 times a month, 192 times a year—they cost €0.52 per wear.
If you buy jeans for €20 and wear them only twice, they cost €10 per wear.
