Rethinking the Short-Sleeved Shirt in Business Dress<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the most frequently debated topics during my seminars on business dress etiquette\u2014regardless of the audience\u2014is the short-sleeved shirt. The mere mention of it often provokes confusion and disbelief. \u201cWhat do you mean it\u2019s inappropriate?\u201d many ask. \u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet style professionals and etiquette experts agree: in Slovenia, the short-sleeved shirt is far too prevalent, especially in settings where it simply doesn\u2019t belong.<\/p>\n

The Problem with Short Sleeves<\/h3>\n

Let\u2019s be clear: a short-sleeved formal shirt is, in essence, a shirt that\u2019s missing a part of its design. It\u2019s\u00a0incomplete<\/em>. The sleeves jut out like stiff little wings, and from beneath them, often emerge hairy arms\u2014giving the unfortunate impression of spider legs.<\/p>\n

Even worse? Pairing a short-sleeved shirt with a tie.
This combination doesn\u2019t elevate the look\u2014it only highlights the imbalance. A tie cannot restore the dignity lost by the lack of sleeves. Instead of adding formality, it accentuates the shirt\u2019s inadequacy, creating an awkward and unprofessional appearance.<\/p>\n
